Capris and Indian Coffee

Although the bus ride was sleepless and unpleasant, it is comforting
to know that we made the right decision by taking the bus. Upon
arriving back home this morning at 6, my host mom informed me that
there had been a bomb attack on the railway between Trichy and
Chennai, exactly where we would have travelled if we had come home by
train. The explosion occurred while no train was around, and they were
luckily able to avoid any serious accidents, only leaving a small
section of the railway to repair and delaying all the trains in the
area. Even though we hadn't really been in harm's way, it was odd to
have the "terrorist train attack" that we usually only read about or
see a headline of on the news be so nearby.

After waiting for the taxi to come and pick me up this morning from
6-7:45, my host mother called to find out where they were and found
that they had rescheduled me to tomorrow so that I could rest today.
Unfortunately nobody remembered to tell me or Amma. I slept through
the morning hospital shift after that and woke up for lunch before
heading to the Meenakshi bazaar next to the famous Meenakshi temple. I
am scheduled to go to the world famous temple next week, but just the
outside entrance was stunning. The bazaar wad huge and really
fascinating. Jess and Allison were picking up dresses that they were
having made, and the Indian tailor convinced me to let him make me a
pair of capris for only about $6. I've been considering getting some
shirts made, and so I figured I would give it a test run and see how I
like them. So far, everyone I know who has had things custom made has
loved them and I can't wait to see how the pants turn out.

Not much else to report for today. I tried Indian coffee, which I
instantly loved far more than American coffee because it is so sweet
and has so little coffee taste that it's just like a well-caffeinated
tea.

Heading off to the leprosy mission hospital tomorrow and will return
Thursday night...
