EUG - SFO delayed
I should now be arriving in SF with about an hour, which according to the gate agent is essentially enough time to run out of the airport, hop on the skytrain, switch terminals, go back through security, and get to my flight out to Frankfurt on time. Ha.
This is all assuming, of course, that we depart Eugene at our delayed departure time.
My "oversized baggage" travel backpack is somewhere in checked bag land, and hopefully the massive plastic bag that it was wrapped in when I checked it in doesn't prevent it from making the same quick trek that I will have to make through SFO. Personally, I actually feel that it was far from "oversized", and was very proud of my packing job. No bag sitting, stuffing, or crushing took place to get it closed, and I may even have room to bring things back!
The nerves managed to stay at bay all morning as I was finishing my final packing. They really didn't hit until I was through security and walking down the long corridor to my delayed flight. I'm really excited to finally be embarking on this 48 hour door to door adventure (25 hours in the air, an overnight in Chennai, and then an 8 hour train to my new "home"). After so much planning and goodbyes and running around for the past week trying to get every last little travel thing that I could need for the next two months, I feel like I just need to be there in the 100+ degree heat and humidity and finally experience whatever it is that I'm going to experience.
So goes post #1 from my iPod via free wireless internet in the Eugene airport. With any luck, the next time I post I'll be sweltering in some little cafe on the other side of the world in a few days with some boring travel story about how the rest of my flights were on time and I couldn't recline my seat for 9 hours or something.
Until then...
